WASHINGTON, D.C. (May 9, 2024)—In the past week, gas prices have seen a minor decrease, with the national average falling by three cents to $3.64 since last Thursday. This slight dip in prices is attributed to lukewarm domestic demand ahead of Memorial Day and oil costs remaining below $80 a barrel.

AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross commented on this development, stating, “The current news cycle is jam-packed, so not having gas prices in the mix should be a welcome relief.” He further added that consumers are likely to observe minimal fluctuations in pump prices for the time being.

Gross also highlighted an upcoming event that could impact travel trends and consequently fuel demand. "That’s important because, on May 13, AAA will release the Memorial Day travel forecast, which could be a robust weekend for car trips. Stay tuned!" he said.
