Augusta Metro Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Jan. 2.

The year 2020 is the 100th anniversary of the signing of the 19th Amendment, guaranteeing and protecting women's right to vote. Join the Augusta Metro Chamber and presenting sponsor James M. Hull College of Business, Augusta University on Tuesday, January 21 for Women in Business, ‘A Voice For A Century: Marking the Anniversary of Women’s Suffrage.’ The luncheon will be held at the Legends Club and begins at 11:30 am.

The afternoon’s guest speaker Dr. Lee Ann Caldwell, Professor of History and Director of the Center for the Study of Georgia History, Augusta University, will remark on the circumstances leading to this historic milestone and bring to light the women of Augusta who championed the right to vote in their community for generations of women to come.

Dr. Caldwell researches and publishes on Georgia history, Augusta area history, and Southern women’s history. In 2011, Clairmont Press published her textbook Georgia: Its Heritage and Its Promise; an updated and revised edition was published in 2018. In that year, Lee Ann and colleague Jim Garvey co-authored the book AUGUSTA. She has served on civic and professional boards, including two terms as president of the Georgia Association of Historians. Dr. Caldwell has won several awards including the Governor’s Award in the Humanities.
