Cox Communications issued the following announcement on May 22.

Cox Communications announced today that advertising and media industry veteran Louis Gump will join as senior vice president to lead the company’s Cox Media division. In this role, Gump will drive growth through innovative and client-focused strategies that build upon Cox Media’s expanding portfolio of TV and premium digital advertising solutions.

Gump was most recently CEO of NewsON, a digital media company co-founded by Cox Media Group (a separate subsidiary of Cox Communications parent company Cox Enterprises) that gives consumers access to a nationwide lineup of live and on-demand local newscasts. While there, Gump helped shape NewsON into a leader in streaming media and connected TV advertising.

Prior to NewsON, Gump served as president and CEO of mobile advertising company LSN Mobile, driving product innovation, and vice president of mobile at CNN, where he guided their global mobile business including the launch of a groundbreaking iPad app. He also led the expansion of The Weather Channel’s mobile business, defining the future of weather applications, websites and video.

“Marketers face an increasingly complex challenge to reach their audiences effectively and efficiently. We can help them make more informed buying decisions through innovative solutions and advanced advertising capabilities,” said Sujata Gosalia, executive vice president and chief strategy officer, Cox Communications. “Throughout his career, Louis has led teams to push traditional boundaries and deliver cutting edge solutions to clients. He is a great fit to lead Cox Media into the future.”

Gump served on the board of the Mobile Marketing Association for over a decade and has been recognized with the MMA’s Lifetime Achievement Award. He’s also served in diverse capacities with organizations including the Interactive Advertising Bureau, Online Publishers Association, Atlanta Mobility Task Force, the Mobile Giving Foundation and Junior Achievement of Georgia.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in comparative area studies from Duke University and an MBA from the University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business. Prior to starting his business career, Gump taught English in Taiwan. He lives in Atlanta with his wife and three children.
